Assaf Sasson leads the firm’s VAT practice and is one of its principal authors of tax opinions. An attorney and CPA with more than a decade of advisory and litigation experience, he handles matters from initial tax planning through court representation.

Education and Qualifications

Assaf holds an undergraduate degree from the combined Law and Accounting program at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He was named to the Faculty of Law’s Dean’s List and received the Judge Tavy Miller Award for outstanding achievement in the combined program. He qualified as a CPA in 2013 and was admitted to the bar in 2014.

Experience

Assaf completed his accounting training in the Tax Department at Ziv Haft and his legal internship in the chambers of Judge David Cheshin, President of the Jerusalem District Court. During his studies, he also worked as a pre-intern in the Fiscal Department of the State Attorney’s Office.

He subsequently worked in Gornitzky’s Tax Department. Between 2015 and 2020, he practiced as an attorney and later as a partner at A. Rafael & Co., where he prepared tax opinions, handled court proceedings, submitted tax ruling applications and represented clients before the tax authorities. He later drafted tax opinions and pleadings for leading tax law firms.

Teaching

Assaf served as a teaching assistant to Professor David Gliksberg in the Tax Law course at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem’s Faculty of Law. He also taught tax tutorials at academic colleges.
